King Of Ink Land portrait
Overall size- Width: 914mm Height: 1238mm 40mm deep
Portrait painting of HRM King Of Ink Land, the most tattooed man in the UK. One painting from an ongoing series of portraits themed on body modifications. The chosen subject its self speaks of the special kind of body Sara was hoping to represent in her practice. Something different from the modern social norm, someone with a creative soul and an individual body idea. King Of Ink Land has modified his own body with tattoo’s, removal of body parts, piercings and manipulation. These include removal of nipples, inking of the eye balls and piercings into the head.
The presentation of the isolated dissected human organ on the outer skin (heart on his chest) represents the normality and common connection with the human race and anatomy of us all. Singling out of an object, giving the impressions it belongs. The individual part, though singled out in a range of textual and iconographic spaces, always suggest a series of relations (David Hillman & Carla Mazzid, The Body in Parts) this being juxtaposed with HRM King Of Ink Land’s unique body image portrait, draws attention to the difference we all have from one another. This particular body has been used to visually express the creativity, political beliefs and personality of their mind. Taken to such an extreme has then enabled this particular body to be isolated and looked at as ‘different’.
The two ideas together display the common and almost generic connection of our human bodies but the differences and individuality of every one of us. We must remember not to judge others as they appear as after all, we are all the same on the inside. We are all beautiful, amazing human beings.
